A Chemical Engineer from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University. Dr Awasthi is a world-renowned professional and an authority in the global Chemical fertiliser sector. With nearly 5 decades of experience, Dr Awasthi has been instrumental in making IFFCO a global leader in fertiliser production. Under his leadership, IFFCO has made rapid strides on all fronts and has diversified into several sectors like General Insurance, Rural Telephony, Rural Retail, SEZ amongst others. Besides IFFCO Dr Awasthi serves on the boards of several Indian and global companies.
With over 50 million members in 40,000 member cooperatives, Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) is one of the biggest agricultural cooperatives in the world, generating over $5 billion of turnover. It supplies quality fertilisers and provides services to agricultural producers. The cooperatives operate five fertiliser production plants in India and hold participating interests in plants in the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan and Senegal, in addition to investing in Canada, Peru and Argentina. Through its various services for the farmers & rural India, IFFCO is recognised for its involvement in local communities in India, whether in the fields of education, health or drinking water supply
IFFCO has now build Indian digital platform to serve IFFCO’s member societies and farmers across the nation. The platform called as “Indian Cooperative Digital Platform” is the largest pioneering effort by IFFCO in developing a vibrant online community. It is aimed at creating the single unified platform to serve multiple needs of a farmer, this platform will offer various services including rural e-commerce, classifieds, discussion forum, multilingual chat, and entertainment.
On the launch, Dr U.S. Awasthi said “This is a very important stepping stone in building an online community of empowered farmers and members. We believe India has immense opportunities for farmers across the country. This platform will allow our members and farmers to not only interact with us but also share best practices and learn from other farmers across the country. We are committed to using technology for a cashless economy and a digital India through various initiatives on this platform. We will educate farmers to use the internet to their advantage.
